Dear Students and Instructors,
It is that time of year again when we meet in beautiful surroundings for an exciting weekend of Muso Shinden Ryu Iaido training and camaraderie! This year's location will be Camp Lokanda in the Catskill Mountains near Glen Spey in upstate New York. Note that this is a new location! Camp Lokanda's facilities are among the best. The camp is located on 80 acres on a scenic 3-mile natural spring-fed lake. The bunks are comfortable, modern and clean with bathrooms, showers and beautiful lake views. Camp Lokanda recently added a brand new dining hall and kitchen which is over 14,000 square feet! Attached to this building is a huge outdoor covered pavilion for outdoor eating and barbeques. All of the food served at Lokanda is Kosher and dairy and meat meals are never mixed. The Chef takes great pride in the variety and quality of the meals offered during breakfast, lunch and dinner. Campers enjoy so many options and there is always a great salad bar with plenty of fresh options. The Social Hall is a large beautiful air-conditioned building that is spacious enough for a large group with wood floors appropriate for Iaido practice.

Camp Notes and Shinsa Results

On behalf of Mitsuzuka Munehiro sensei and myself, we wish to congratulate all attending SSK members for a successful and memorable camp! We know some of you risked hardship and even danger to attend. For those of you who suffered losses, our hopes and prayers are with you for a quick return to normalcy.
Congratulations to all who tested! We are proud of you. Not everyone is willing to open themselves up to critique by their peers. We appreciate your commitment and courage. If the test were evaluated solely on spirit, every candidate would surely have passed, however, we must take into consideration many other areas of the testing performance! We and the instructors of the students that need to retest are committed to working closely with you to help you achieve the level you tested for. We apologize for not getting the chance to formally announce the results of the test, as we finished late in the day and most people left right after dinner to avoid the approaching storm.

The deadline for postmarking your Summer Camp registration to be eligible for the lower rate is tomorrow, Monday the 15th.
Also, Peter Boylan of Mugendo Budogu has confirmed his attendance again this year. Make sure to bring some spending money, because you will be tempted by his quality budo goods, as well as the usual offering of San Shin Kai curriculum DVDs.

There will be a three-hour iaido seminar on Saturday, March 12th, from 11:00 am — 2:00 pm at the Crosswinds dojo in Hazleton, PA. This seminar will cover general fine points of technique and kata of MSR. It is open to everyone and will count as one of the required seminars for testing. Camp is just 7 months away! Dinner is at 4:00 pm till ? This is a free seminar and dinner for all instructors in good standing. (Dinner is capped at $35.00) any additional fees, drinks etc. are extra.
